History

The  Elmira Sugar Kings have been a part of the local sports scene since 1971.  It all came of the dreams of some prominent local hockey and business minds who were concerned that local junior hockey players had to leave town in order to play.

Claude Forler first proposed the formation of a Junior B Hockey franchise.  Former then put together a directorship and his brother Gerry became Coach and General Manager.  Many Coaches have had a hand in building the success of the Sugar Kings through the years.

Today, the Sugar Kings play in the Western Conference of the GOJHL (Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League).  Our home ice is the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena, at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.

The Elmira Sugar Kings are a “Community Team”.  We are a non-profit organization that is managed by a volunteer board of directors and approximately 30 volunteers.  The most fulfilling part of operating a successful Junior ice hockey team is in developing our players for their next level of hockey and in life.
